DAILY Fiction creates performance art drawing on threads from Butoh dance, performance lectures, physical theatre, and sensory-based performance art that engages the audience. DAILY Fiction represents somatic contemporary art — experimental and unpretentious.

DAILY Fiction uses the body to challenge the notion that the world consists of isolated parts with humans at the center. We create experiences of connectedness with other forms of existence, such as asphalt, oil, and sand. Experiencing oneself as part of a larger whole can inspire hope regarding how we care for the world around us. Our vision is a society capable of embracing the complex connections of which we are a part—an expanded collective consciousness.

Forging kinship with other forms of existence—”kin-making”—is a major international, cross-sectoral endeavor. This work is vital because, as a society, we need to stop acting as if humans stand above the nature upon which we depend. Works are created over time; a swarm of researchers, audience members, students, and artists participates in the creative and reflective process. DAILY Fiction contributes its artistic voice to a broader geopolitical conversation.

DAILY Fiction is a performing arts association that creates productions in collaboration with cultural partners across the country of Denmark; its artistic direction is led by dancer and performance artist Tora Balslev. She invites the audience into alternative modes of presence using a choreographic method that draws on listening, imagination, and meditative techniques. In collaboration with a range of talented artists, she creates works for DAILY Fictions that have been presented at Dansehallerne, Metropolis, PASSAGE Festival, the Royal Danish Theatre, and elsewhere.

Tora is a graduate of the School of Stage Arts and the Danish National Centre for Theatre Development. She is a member of the research group Art and Social Relations at the University of Agder (Norway).
